KARYATID

Slab-built ceramic vessel based on the female nude in earthenware. Decorated using paper resist with blue and white clay slips. Glazed inside.
This piece came from a life-drawing sessions where I used paper and scissors instead of a pencil to make collage drawings.
Here, I've used cut out paper as a "resist" to the blue clay with black clay slip. After the slip is brushed on, it is rubbed, to slightly polish it and harden the surface, and then the paper is removed to reveal the white "collage".
