Mythomania

Mythomania

Mythomania: "the tendency to lie, exaggerate, or relate incredible imaginary adventures as if they had really happened"... Sounds about right!

Square section slab pot with paper resist decoration. Glazed earthenware.

The figures are cut from paper, quite roughly with scissors, so as not to be too "precious".

The iconography is mostly borrowed - and altered - from art history - Leonardo's Leda and the Swan, Picasso's Minotaur, Botticelli's Daphne, a Greek statue from antiquity. Icarus and the waving maiden are entirely imaginary!

Height 26 cm. W 19 cm. D 5 cm.
